Cat & Shiloh soaking up the sun in Suisun Valley, where Cat spent countless hours in 4-H, and where her father Manny Perez worked the fields as a laborer.
Today, she’s promoting Suisun Valley farmland as a tourist destination,
while also fighting to protect it from unnecessary development.
MEET CAT!
Catherine “Cat” Moy was born and raised in Fairfield, California, to a family of Hispanic immigrants who were field workers in Solano County.
Her parents were also raised in Fairfield. Cat graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Solano Community College before transferring and receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, from Hayward State College.
Following graduation from college, Cat worked as a professional journalist for 20 years until her friend Fairfield Councilman Matt Garcia was murdered. She wanted to help her hometown in its darkest days, so Cat left her beloved career to volunteer as a Fairfield Councilwoman. She was appointed in 2008, becoming the city’s first Hispanic female councilmember.
She ran for office a year later and has won election three times. She’s a bold, thoughtful, and loving leader who focuses on community needs. Cat is well-known for solving residents’ problems on a daily basis, as they come up on social media, in calls, and emails. She does it with heart and purpose.
Cat’s experience as an elected leader has prepared her to lead at a higher level, where she can set the agenda based on residents’ needs. She’s now running for mayor against two men and hopes to become only the 2nd female mayor in the city’s almost 120 years.
Cat helps those who suffer in society. She ran a women’s and children’s homeless shelter that provided healthcare, education, computer skills, and credit help for those needing it – plus a safe home where their needs were covered. She is now an active homeless advocate. She serves on the Solano County Office of Education’s HEART (Homeless Education and Resource Team) Program to ensure homeless children, students, and those lacking resources get the help they need.
Cat keeps her eyes on the needs of seniors and children. She volunteers on behalf of children through Scouts, youth sports, equestrian events, and the arts. She has also served as a lay minister to Holy Spirit Church, serving sick, elderly, and terminally ill Fairfield residents. She was a coach/mentor to young women with Girls on the Run. As a long-time member of the NAACP, she served on the executive board. Cat has relationships with many of the city’s faith leaders and works with them on projects helping Fairfield and its residents.
Cat and her husband, also a native of Fairfield, have been married for 34 years and have one adult daughter she adores.
